Carbonated began as a final Basic Design “Imaginarium” project, in which the goal of the project was to create a three minute abstract/surreal theatrical experience for one audience member in a space no larger than a utility closet.
Our team’s goal was to pull at our audience’s five senses. We including phases that incorporated sound, lighting, and projection media to evoke the following feelings/moods: anticipation, calmness, energy, comfort, and release. The design team worked to specifically give the audience member things to touch, smell, see, and interact with. This included a swing, a cellophane-infused wraparound costume piece, moving projections, and aromatic scent pockets.
This entire process took one month for design and budget meetings, purchasing, scenic/costume construction, scenic treatment, and content development. The project was completed with one day of around seventy performances in total.
